A note from Bonnie:
The success of Keith's "Make A
Wish Day" was made by, as the Deaver Family said, "a lot of people."
The joy of Keith's smile cannot be explained. He is an exceptional
young man.
To share some of the highlights and positives is best I can do. Keith
arrived, was presented his Yard Kart all trimmed up with new paint
etc, he received his trophy, inscribed with "Race of a Champion"
2004 Keith Deaver. He got to race in the Beginner Rookie Class, he
was rewarded by The LaPoint Racing Team, bringing their Late Model
from Marshfield, WI, lettered with Keith as their Honorary Crew
Chief, presented racers t-shirts from Late Model Drivers, Dexter
Bean and Mike Belling, and got to race with 7 of his classmates in
competition karts.
Later Keith and his family were presented money raised from the benefit
totalling over $1000 dollars. Hats off to everyone who made this day
a hugh success. Racing families from Coulee Go Kart Raceway donated,
Westby Nordic Raceway, La Crosse Fairground Speedway, & Marshfield
Speedway all came together with donations, along with friends,
family members and members of the local community.
Special thanks to some others. Jacklyn Daniels for her support on her
radio show, her and Jimmy's donation of money, O.J. and Chuck Timm
at the speedway for the plug and donation, your timing could not
have been better. Roxanne Von Ruden for helping coordinate the
event, Chuck Smutny for all his time and effort, along with Judy
Cross and the team of workers on the kart, who along with The Fjord
Bar (Tom & Sharon Floyd) who continued their support through this
whole venture. Rich Stoll for his kart wisdom when Saturday seemed
grim. Channel 8 News and Dorothy Jasperson from The Westby Times for
recognizing the event and showing their support. John & Kate Schaitel and family for getting
Keith into Andy's kart to race. All the families and racers who
allowed Keith's classmates support group to use their karts to race.
The D. Bean LTD Trucking (Doug & Nancy Bean & family) for being the
race sponsor. All the people who brought items to raffle or for door
prizes. The Haller family for getting the word out which got us the
DJ service of Lee Powless who donated his time, and all the request
monies to Keith's fund. The thoughtful gestures of BlackJack Racing
and Dexter Bean and his family for the authographed T-Shirt and
driver Mike Belling who also did the same. Wayne Brevik owner,
driver Dean LaPoint and crew who traveled from Marshfield to spend
the day with their race car just for Keith. Skip Check, P&R Award
(Ruth & Phil) and Tippy Toe Inn (Marv & Linda DeGarmo) who all had
part in the Trophy. Our Webmaster for rivervalleykarting.com, Monte
Bankes who put all the info up and posted the pictures to our
website. Yanicka Lunde, press
& promotions coordinator, who got the word out to the racing family,
went on the radio with Jacklyn and collected funds for us. John
Radke and his crew from Nordic Lanes for being a big part, Keith's
classmates and their families for being part of the day.
Thanks to my crew from the raceway also for helping making this day
a big success and Randy Lunde for taking all the great photo's for
our memories and website. I am sorry if I missed or left out anyone.
Sorry for the length of this post an event like this is worthy of
half a book.
